Admission to GCE ‘O’ Level Programme Secondary 1 (AY 2019)

A. Overview

CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School will be accepting students for Secondary 1 of our ‘O’ Level Programme (OP) commencing in Academic Year (AY) 2019 via the 2018 Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSA-Sec) Exercise. Primary 6 students seeking admission into our OP can consider participating in the DSA-Sec Exercise as another avenue besides the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise. 

B. Overview of DSA-Sec Talent Areas
The table below outlines the specific talent areas and selection criteria through which P6 students can be admitted into our OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise.

Selection Criteria

Sports & Games

Sports & Games is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the ‘O’ Level Programme and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in sports.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s ‘O’ Level Programme. 
  • Achieved outstanding sporting performance in one of the following sports: 
    • Athletics 
    • Badminton 
    • Gymnastics (Artistic & Trampoline) 
    • Gymnastics (Rhythmic) 
    • Hockey 
    • Netball 
    • Table Tennis 
  • Outstanding sporting performance includes: 
    • Achievements at National School Level; 
    • Achievements at Zonal competitions; 
    • Achievements at National Sports Associations (NSA) sanctioned competitions; and 
    • Other relevant achievements in the Sports & Games applied for. 
  • Performance at sports trial date on either 16 July 2018 or 18 July 2018. (applicants to register for one date). 
  • Performance at interview 
  • Please submit relevant supporting documents including credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials/ CCA records.


Leadership is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the ‘O’ Level Programme, demonstrate strong leadership potential and are passionate and committed to the service of others and the community.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s ‘O’ Level Programme.

  • Attained leadership positions in primary school, e.g. Prefectorial Board, CCAs, Organising committee for school-wide programmes or events that positively impact the school body / broader community, etc.

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only).

  • Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials.

C. Applicants Not Studying in MOE schools
  • Applicants who are not studying in MOE schools and are keen to seek admission to our OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise will need to first obtain a registration number from the MOE Customer Service Centre, starting from 7 May 2018.
  • All applicants should fulfil the age requirement for Secondary 1 admission in 2019. 
    • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents must be born between 2 Jan 2002 and 1 Jan 2007 
    • International Students (non-SC/PR) must be born between 2 Jan 2004 and 1 Jan 2007

  • All international students must also take part in the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) if they wish to seek admission to a mainstream school. International Students who wish to participate in the DSA-Sec Exercise can apply to the respective DSA-Sec schools first before taking the AEIS. 

D. Application Process

Step 1: Pre-Application

  • Understand the different talent areas and criteria for admission to the SNGS OP via DSA-Sec. (See Section B

  • Kindly read through our FAQ first before proceeding with the online application

Step 2: Online Application

7 May 2018 to 3 July 2018

  • To apply for admission to SNGS OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise, all applicants must complete the online application through our school’s DSA application form at Our online application form can also be accessed by scanning the QR code below.

  • Applicants keen on admission via OP Sports & Games, should register for a sports trial date on either 16 July 2018 (Monday) or 18 July 2018 (Wednesday) via the school's online DSA application form. 

  • Please ensure that all relevant documents / materials listed in Section B are submitted. 

  • The application form will open on 7 May 2018 (Monday) and the application form will close on 3 July 2018 (Tuesday), 5.00pm

  • Please note that incomplete applications or applications received after the above stated date and time will not be considered. 

  • The General Ability Test (GAT) will not be required for the selection process.

Step 3a: Selection Stage – Sports & Games

  • Sports trials are ONLY for applicants who have applied for the Sports & Games DSA talent area

  • Interviews for admission to the OP via Sports & Games will be conducted on the same day as the sports trials. 

  • More details on the sports trial and interview will be emailed to applicants after the closing date of 3 July 2018

Step 3b: Selection Stage – Leadership

  • Shortlisted applicants will be informed of the interview date and time through email or telephone.

Step 4: Announcement of Application outcome

31 August 2018

  • Shortlisted applicants will subsequently be notified of the application outcome by post by end-August. All other applicants will also be notified of their application outcome via email. 

  • Note: Applicants who chose “OP Sports & Games” or “OP Leadership” may also be invited by the school to apply for a place in our Integrated Programme via “IP Sports & Games” or “IP Leadership”

E. Commitment from Successful DSA Applicants
  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

  • Successful applicants who accept the DSA offer for the SNGS ‘O’ Level Programme are expected to honour the commitment to their posted DSA School (i.e. CHIJ SNGS) for the full 4-year duration of the programme. 

  • Successful applicants will NOT be allowed to participate in the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools and will NOT be allowed to seek transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They will be assured of a place in CHIJ SNGS so long as they are eligible for the Express course option based on their PSLE results.
