Artistic Gymnastics

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

Artistic Gymnastics develops the gymnast’s kinesthetic awareness, balance, flexibility, strength and coordination. This sport requires the gymnast to practise each routine to artistic perfection, leading to character building. In addition, it also provides opportunity for gymnasts to socialise and bond with one another.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

We hope to develop the following values through Artistic Gymnastics:-

  • Self-respect
  • Self-discipline
  • Self-confidence
  • Resilience
  • Respect for others
Gymnastics also lends itself as a platform to develop communication skills and team building. Besides regular training sessions, gymnasts may be invited to attend and lead in the CCA Camp and Leadership Camp. Gymnasts learn to treat fellow gymnasts with respect. All these values prepare them to be effective leaders in the future.

PROGRAMME & ACTIVITIES

Artistic Gymnastics is a discipline of gymnastics where athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses. There are mainly four events for females – vault, single bar, balance beam and floor exercise. It requires gymnasts to display exceptional strength, balance and flexibility with much artistry and grace while doing somersaults, flips and other acrobatic moves. Due to the nature of the sport, it is best learnt at a young age. Commitment through regular practices is required. Besides, maintaining a reasonable or slightly lighter than normal body mass is advantageous.

Selection and Trial Training Module at Primary One

How Do I Qualify for the CCA Programme?

  1. Pupils with potential will be identified during Physical Education lessons at Primary One while pupils of other levels have to wait for the CCA recruitment drive or selection test by invitation only.
  2. Identified pupils will be invited to attend the gymnastics trial.
  3. There are 2 phases during the trial. During Phase I, pupils have the opportunity to experience both rhythmic gymnastics and artistic gymnastics. For pupils who are successful in the Phase I trial, they will move onto Phase II, which consists of sessions in either of the disciplines of gymnastics.
  4. Via consent forms issued by the school, the pupil will officially join the CCA.

Note: Only shortlisted pupils will receive consent forms issued by the school.
