Admission to Integrated Programme Year 1 (AY 2019)

A.    Overview

CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School will be accepting students for Year 1 of our Integrated Programme (IP) commencing in Academic Year (AY) 2019 via the 2018 Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSA-Sec) Exercise. Primary 6 students seeking admission into our IP can consider participating in the DSA-Sec Exercise as another avenue besides the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise. 

Our IP leads up to the GCE ‘A’ Levels offered at Eunoia Junior College. Students will spend their first 4 years in CHIJ SNGS before progressing to Eunoia Junior College to complete the IP.

B.    Overview of DSA-Sec Talent Areas
The table below outlines the selection criteria for the specific talent areas through which P6 students can be admitted into our IP via the DSA-Sec Exercise.

Sports & Games

Sports & Games is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the 6-year IP and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in sports.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s Integrated Programme. 

  • Achieved outstanding sporting performance in one of the following sports: 
    • Athletics 
    • Badminton 
    • Gymnastics (Artistic & Trampoline) 
    • Gymnastics (Rhythmic) 
    • Hockey 
    • Netball 
    • Table Tennis 

  • Outstanding sporting performance includes: 
    • Achievements at National School Level; 
    • Achievements at Zonal competitions; 
    • Achievements at National Sports Associations (NSA) sanctioned competitions; and 
    • Other relevant achievements in the Sports & Games applied for. 

  • Performance at sports trial on either 16 July 2018 or 18 July 2018 (applicants to register for one date). 

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Please submit relevant supporting documents including credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials/CCA records.

Leadership

Leadership is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the 6-year IP, demonstrate strong leadership potential and are passionate and committed to the service of others and the community.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s Integrated Programme. 

  • Attained leadership positions in primary school, e.g. Prefectorial Board, CCAs, Organising committee for school-wide programmes or events that positively impact the school body / broader community, etc. 

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials.

Bilingualism (English Language and Chinese Language)

Bilingualism is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the 6-year IP and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in both the English and Chinese Languages. 



直接收生计划中英双语项目:适合有意修读六年制综合课程并且在中英双语学习方面有热忱、有才华的学生。

Explanation of criteria in English 
  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s Integrated Programme. 

  • Achieved outstanding performance in both English Language and Chinese Language, for example: 
    • Obtained excellent school-based results in these subjects 
    • Attained commendable outcomes for relevant competitions and/or programmes 
    • Published works on school-based or other local platforms 

  • A 1-minute long Personal Introduction video in both English and Mandarin (submitted to CHIJ SNGS – please refer to instructions on our online application form). 

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials/ published works. 

Explanation of criteria in Mandarin 
  • 具备从综合课程获益的学习能力 

  • 中英双语能力表现突出,如: 
    • 中英文校内成绩优异 
    • 在语文类比赛中表现优异 
    • 作品在校内或其他平台出版 

  • 提供1分钟录像,用中英双语进行自我介绍 

  • 面试表现(仅限受邀者) 

  • 请提交相关证明文件,包括成绩单、奖状、推荐信、出版作品等。

Mathematics

Mathematics is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the 6-year IP and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in Mathematics and related fields.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s Integrated Programme. 

  • Achieved outstanding performance in Mathematics, for example: 
    • Obtained excellent school-based results in Mathematics 
    • Attained commendable outcomes for relevant Mathematics-related competitions and/or programmes 

  • Performance in a Mathematics-specific diagnostic instrument (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials.

Sciences

Sciences is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the 6-year IP and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in the Sciences and related fields.

  • Overall readiness to benefit from the school’s Integrated Programme. 

  • Achieved outstanding performance in the Sciences, for example: 
    • Obtained excellent school-based results in Science 
    • Attained commendable outcomes for relevant Science-related competitions and/or programmes 

  • Performance in a Sciences-specific diagnostic instrument (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Performance at interview (for shortlisted candidates only). 

  • Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials.


C. Applicants Not Studying in MOE schools
  • Applicants who are not studying in MOE schools and are keen to seek admission to our OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise will need to first obtain a registration number from the MOE Customer Service Centre, starting from 7 May 2018.
 
  • All applicants should fulfil the age requirement for Secondary 1 admission in 2019. 
    • Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents must be born between 2 Jan 2002 and 1 Jan 2007 
    • International Students (non-SC/PR) must be born between 2 Jan 2004 and 1 Jan 2007

  • All international students must also take part in the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) if they wish to seek admission to a mainstream school. International Students who wish to participate in the DSA-Sec Exercise can apply to the respective DSA-Sec schools first before taking the AEIS.

Step 1: Pre-Application

  • Understand the different talent areas and criteria for admission to the SNGS IP via DSA-Sec. (Refer to Section B

  • Kindly also read through our FAQ first before proceeding with the online application

Step 2: Online Application

7 May 2018 to 3 July 2018

  • To apply for admission to SNGS IP via the DSA-Sec Exercise, all applicants must complete the online application through our school’s DSA application form at http://bit.ly/SNGSDSAApplication. Our online application form can also be accessed by scanning the QR code below.

  • Applicants keen on admission via IP Sports & Games should register for a sports trial date on either 16 July 2018 (Monday) or 18 July 2018 (Wednesday) via the school's online DSA application form

  • Please ensure that all relevant documents/materials listed in Section B are submitted. 

  • The application form will open on 7 May 2018 (Monday) and will close on 3 July 2018 (Tuesday), 5.00pm

  • Please note that incomplete applications or applications received after the stated date and time above will not be considered. 

  • The General Ability Test (GAT) will not be required for the selection process.

Step 3a: Selection Stage, Sports Trials and Subject-specific Diagnostic Instruments

July 2018

  • Sports trials are ONLY for applicants who have applied for the Sports & Games DSA talent area

  • More details on the sports trial will be emailed to applicants after the closing date of 3 July 2018


  • Subject-specific diagnostic instruments are ONLY for shortlisted applicants who applied for EITHER the Mathematics OR Sciences DSA talent areas, or for both these talent areas

  • Shortlisted applicants will be informed of the date and time of the subject-specific diagnostic instrument via email or telephone.

Step 3b: Selection Stage, Interviews for Shortlisted Applicants

July 2018 to August 2018

  • Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview at CHIJ SNGS. 

  • Shortlisted applicants will be informed of the interview date and time through email or telephone. 

  • CHIJ SNGS reserves the right not to release the reasons for non-selection and/or interview results.

Step 4: Announcement of Application Outcome

31 August 2018

  • Shortlisted applicants will subsequently be notified of the application outcome by post by end-August. All other applicants will also be notified of their application outcome via email. 

  • Note: Applicants who chose “IP Sports & Games” or “IP Leadership” may also be offered a place in our ‘O’ Level Programme via “OP Sports & Games” or “OP Leadership” depending on the outcome of their IP application.


E. Commitment from Successful DSA Applicants
  • Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

  • Successful applicants who accept the DSA offer for the SNGS Integrated Programme are expected to honour the commitment to their posted DSA School (i.e. CHIJ SNGS and EJC) for the full 6-year duration of the programme. 

  • Successful applicants will NOT be allowed to participate in the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools and will NOT be allowed to seek transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They will be assured of a place in CHIJ SNGS so long as they are eligible for the Express course option based on their PSLE results.
