Admission to GCE ‘O’ Level Programme Secondary 1 (AY 2018)

A.  Overview

CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School will be accepting students for Secondary 1 of our ‘O’ Level Programme (OP) commencing in Academic Year (AY) 2018 via the 2017 Direct School Admission-Secondary (DSA-Sec) Exercise. Primary 6 students seeking admission into our OP can consider participating in the DSA-Sec Exercise as another avenue besides the Secondary One Posting Exercise.

P6 students keen to be admitted into our OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise are invited to do so via the Sports & Games category. 

B.  Overview of DSA-Sec Sports & Games

The table below outlines the specific sporting talent areas and selection criteria through which P6 students can be admitted into our OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise.

Sports & Games is for P6 applicants who are keen to pursue the ‘O’ Level Programme and demonstrate passion, aptitude and talent in sports.




·   Overall readiness to benefit from the school's 'O' Level Programme.


·       Achieved outstanding sporting performance in one of the following sports:

o   Athletics

o   Badminton

o   Gymnastics (Artistic & Trampoline)

o   Gymnastics (Rhythmic)

o   Hockey

o   Netball

o   Table Tennis


·         Outstanding sporting performance includes:

o   Achievements at National School Level;

o   Achievements at Zonal competitions;

o Achievements at National Sports Associations (NSA) sanctioned competitions; and

o Other relevant achievements in the Sports & Games applied for.


·    Performance at sports trial date on either 10 July 2017 or 12 July 2017. (applicants to register for only one date).


·        Performance at interview


· Please submit a portfolio including relevant credentials/awards/certificates/testimonials/ CCA records.


C.  Applicants Not Studying in MOE Primary Schools

·        Applicants who are not studying in MOE schools and are keen to seek admission to our IP via the DSA-Sec Exercise will need to first obtain a registration number from the MOE Customer Service Centre, starting from 8 May 2017.

·      All applicants should fulfil the age requirement for Secondary 1 admission in 2018

o   Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents must be born between 2 Jan 2001 and 1 Jan 2006

o   International Students (non-SC/PR) must be born between 2 Jan 2003 and 1 Jan 2006

·    All international students must also take part in the Admissions Exercise for International Students (AEIS) if they wish to seek admission to a mainstream public school. International Students who wish to participate in the DSA-Sec Exercise can apply to the respective DSA-Sec schools first before taking the AEIS.

D.  Application Process


Key information

Step 1: Pre-Application

      Understand the criteria for admission to the SNGS OP via DSA-Sec category Sports & Games. (See Section B)

Step 2: Online Application


8 May 2017 to 3 July 2017

       To apply for admission to SNGS OP via the DSA-Sec Exercise, all applicants must complete the online application through our school’s DSA portal at


    Please ensure that all relevant documents / materials listed in Section B are submitted.


     The portal will open on 8 May 2017 (Monday) and application will close on 3 July 2017 (Monday) at 5.00pm.


      Please note that incomplete applications or applications received after the above stated date and time will not be considered. 


  The General Ability Test (GAT) will not be required for the selection process.


Step 3: Selection Stage


July 2017

     Interviews for admission to the OP will be conducted on the same day as the sports trials.


      More details on the sports trial and interview will be emailed to applicants after the closing date on 3 July 2017.

Step 4: Announcement of Application outcome


31 August 2017

   Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via post.


     CHIJ SNGS reserves the right not to release the reasons for non-selection and/or interview results.


E.  Commitment From Successful DSA Applicants

·       Parents and students are encouraged to choose schools wisely based on the student’s aptitudes and strengths, bearing in mind the schools’ academic and non-academic requirements, and the programmes available to develop the area of talent.

·       Successful applicants who accept the DSA offer for the SNGS ‘O’ Level Programme are expected to honour the commitment to their posted DSA School (i.e. CHIJ SNGS) for the full 4-year duration of the programme.

·         Successful applicants will not be allowed to participate in the Secondary One Posting Exercise to opt for secondary schools and will not be allowed to seek transfer to another school after the release of the PSLE results. They will be assured of a place in CHIJ SNGS so long as they are eligible for the Express course option based on their PSLE results.
